The quintessence depiction of this Old Tupton Ware pattern described as Fairy Gasgoine is probably one of the more favourite designs due to the spiritual warmth conveyed.

Fairies are generally described as human in appearance and having magical powers. Their origins are less clear in the folklore, being variously dead, or some form of angel, or a species completely independent of humans or angels. Fairies are generally portrayed as being humanoid in appearance and as having supernatural abilities such as the ability to fly, cast spells and to influence or foresee the future. In modern culture they are often depicted as young, sometimes winged, females of small stature. Depiction of the fairy with feathered wings are more often associated with angels rather than fairies but specific characteristics has become more ambiguous.
